Natural Remedies For  Cold  Sores

Other people have often mistaken a cold sore from a pimple or even a canker sore. But cold sores are way different from them. Pimples are just tiny bumps which mostly occur in people who have oily and dirty skin. If not treated correctly, they become big and pus filled. As for canker sores, they are more painful but not contagious.

Causes of Cold Sores

Cold sores or fever blisters are normally caused by the herpes simplex virus. This virus often takes place around the lips and mouth area. They appear to be red blisters which are often painful and annoying. To explain further, among its eight (8) types, two (2) types are associated with the cold sore. The Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 or HSV-1 affects only body tissues that are located waist-above while the Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 or HSV-2 affects only body tissues waist-down. The HSV-2 is commonly known as genital herpes.

Phases of Cold Sores

- Initially, you may feel a sore sensation where the blister would appear. The blister will not immediately show
 around this stage.

- After several days (2 to 3 days), the blisters (fluid filled) finally become visible.

- The fever blister slowly ruptures on the fourth day leaving reddish ulceration. Remember that this ulceration
  is not skin deep.

- The blister dries out after a few days, leaving a brownish crust texture on the area. You will notice that the area
becomes gray in color which they say is the most annoying and painful stage.

- The blister basically flakes away and disappears after fourteen (14) days
